Turn up and try without any worries as we look after all the technical stuff and leave you free to enjoy, improve & learn. Taster courses can be run over any time frame and are great for family days out.
Got some experience? You might be looking to improve your caving skills or get into walking leadership. Stepping it up a gear is what we’re all about. Let us help you push your limits and progress as we tailor a course to your needs and coach, teach and guide you to your goals.
As daunting as it may seem the world of outdoor pursuits does not require an instructor permanently attached to you. We can train you in the skills needed to be safe and to get out on your own, whether you’re a family getting into rock climbing or a future instructor. Everyone deserves the independence to enjoy the outdoors.

Pete and everyone involved at True Grit maintain a wide range of qualifications
. We believe that a multi skilled background is better than the single discipline
approach adopted by some providers. Many skills are transferable, even between activities
like kayaking & mountaineering. A greater range of skill and experience makes for
a better all round outdoor practitioner. By undertaking CPD (Continuous Professional
Development) and gaining personal experience we remain fresh, adaptable & confident

Welcome to True Grit Instruction, a personal, professional, straight talking outdoor pursuits company run by Pete Knight. We are based in the beautiful Peak District but operate all over the United Kingdom. As a small organisation we are very flexible in our approach to what we do, I pride myself on giving great customer service from the 1st contact onwards. We believe that in providing a fully tailored service we can better meet your requirements, be they as a beginner seeking a first taste or as a more experienced group or individual seeking to increase skills (or anywhere in between!). Based in the Peaks we have access to some of the best natural resources in the UK; hundreds of caves and disused mines to explore, probably the most popular rock climbing in the world and a huge expanse of open countryside and moorland.
Fully tailored means just that, no need to book onto existing courses (although we do that too), choose a date that works for you and your group. If you have a specific need or idea then we’ll communicate with you right up until the day to ensure we meet your expectations. If you are wanting to try something new then we can provide a range of options and activities for you to choose from to get the most from your course.
